Personality:
Gaara is a forward thinking and powerful political leader with a devotion to his country, his people, and his loved ones. He is a strong character with a solid conviction to protect everyone that he can even if he has to use his own life to do so.
When someone meets Gaara, they automatically see someone who isn’t to be trifled with. His face is constantly set in a hard line and a pensive gaze. He is someone that is hard to read unlike his siblings or his best friend, Naruto. (His lack of eyebrows doesn’t help either.) As a child, he used to be more expressive until he learned better how to control his emotions though to a sort of serious extreme.
That isn’t to say he is devoid of emotion. In fact, he expresses himself the most around people that he’s comfortable with. He’s seen giving small smiles, a concerned glance, or shouting with worry. He’s even seen crying when something breaks his heart. He seeks out kindness and in turn wants to be seen as kind. What he wants are meaningful bonds that he was denied when he was younger and to keep those bonds safe from harm.
Creating those bonds, however, isn’t easy for him. He doesn’t have the same charisma as his brother or brazen and bold personality as his sister. He doesn’t have the same energetic and likable personality as Naruto. In fact, he’s quite socially awkward. He’s quiet and doesn’t speak much unless it’s necessary. If there is a topic that he can contribute to, he’s more apt to speak, but because he is a little reclusive and very very busy with Kazekage work, finding that topic is difficult. He is also inexperienced with making friends which causes him to be awkward when meeting new people for that specific purpose. He went from being wholly rejected by children his own age, to murdering anyone that angered him or was an opponent of his, to growing up very quickly to become the Kazekage. There wasn’t much opportunity for making friends in that time except for the one that helped him on the righteous path to work hard for people and not kill or maim them.
The bonds that he does have are strong. His relationship with his older siblings, Temari and Kankuro, has come a long way from when they were younger. His siblings went from being scared of him to being able to get close to him and have meaningful interactions with him. Before, Gaara was a living weapon that their father was cultivating which didn’t allow them to really get close to him, now he seeks their advice and trusts them fully with important matters. (Or things like how to be social.)
He also has a strong bond with Naruto. A lot of what he does, he does with Naruto in mind. One reason he has been on Naruto’s side to become Hokage is so that they can have drinks together as kages. Naruto also put him on the path “of light” as he would put it. They both had extremely similar lives growing up and Gaara had strayed into the darker route while Naruto had brighter ambitions. Gaara had admired that and decided to put himself on the same path. He went to great lengths to protect him during the Great Shinobi War and even made a speech dedicated to him. So suffice to say, he’s a big fan of the blond.
In spite of being extremely busy with the political work of being the Kazekage, he enjoys cultivating cacti. He gets a bit excited when he gets a chance to speak about it.
Gaara’s personality has come a long way from a child longing to be loved, to loving only himself, to being able to give love to others.
Abilities and Nerfs: He has the ability to manipulate sand in any form that he would like. This includes weapon and personal armor and even working body parts such as eyes. Because there would be a limited amount of sand on the ship, his powers are limited to what is on the ship and inside his gourd.
Inventory: The gourd filled with sand strapped to his back. It’s about the size of a full sized cello case.
Appearance: Gaara isn’t very tall, standing at about 5’5”. He has short, messy red hair and pale skin. He has large, cat-like, pale green eyes that are rimmed with black markings that he was born with, most likely from his bond with Shukaku the One-Tailed beast which is a tanuki. (Similar to Naruto’s whisker markings.) He has the Japanese kanji for “love” etched into his forehead. He has an athletic build, but he isn’t too muscular due to his fighting style not involving much movement.
Five Desires: He would like a cactus garden at some point.
